Indiana native Raven Osborne is just 18 years old, but she’s already about to be a college grad ― sans the financial sorrow.
Not only will Osborne be receiving her high school diploma in a few weeks, she’ll also be getting her bachelor’s degree in sociology Friday.
But how, Sway?
Raven’s high school, 21st Century Charter in Gary, Indiana, requires all of its students to take college courses, usually consisting of just a few credits, before they graduate.
But Osborne, who said she was “labeled” with a learning disability and once told by a teacher that she’d never become successful, decided to take these requirements further and shoot for a full-fledged degree.
“My mother always told me I could do whatever I wanted to do in life,” she told the Northwest Indiana Post-Tribune last year.
“Sophomore [year], that was the most work,” she told CBS News in the above video. “I had five high school classes, four college classes.”
Osborne completed a number of online courses, a year at community college and two years at Purdue University Northwest. Some of her college courses counted as credits toward her high school education.
The sweetest part of her already fascinating story is that she didn’t have to pay a penny for her college classes.
And she’s keeping her smarts in the community: she’ll begin teaching in the upcoming academic year at her soon-to-be high school alma mater.
She did that.
