Former George H.W. Bush Speechwriter Calls Trump's RNC Speech 'Very Dark And Frightening'

CLEVELAND ― Presidential candidates normally use their convention speech to paint a bright, optimistic picture of the country under their future leadership, aiming to leave Americans full of hope. But not Donald Trump.

On Thursday, he took the opportunity to describe a dismal state of affairs in the United States, telling Americans that the convention was occurring during a “moment of crisis” and that America is currently a “dangerous environment.

The grim tone of his speech compelled former George H.W. Bush White House speechwriter, Mary Kate Cary, to comment on Twitter. 

She wasn’t the only one to notice the darkness of his rhetoric. The New York Times and The Washington Post published stories calling attention to Trump’s unusual dark tone.
