Two Bodies Found In Central Park Ponds In Two Days, Cops Say

For the second day in a row, a body has been found floating in a pond in New York City’s Central Park, authorities said.

Officers removed the body of a man from the Pond, located in the park’s southeast corner near East 59th Street and 5th Avenue, after someone called 911 around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police told HuffPost.

The man, whose age has not been released, was found wearing pants and shoes but no shirt, The Associated Press reported.

A day earlier, police had recovered a man’s badly decomposed body from the park’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, roughly 30 blocks north.

Police don’t currently believe the two incidents are related, a police detective who identified himself as Detective Nasser told HuffPost. He said the individual found on Tuesday had been dead for a while.

No one has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing, police said in an emailed statement.

The medical examiner will determine what caused both deaths, police said.

Central Park’s 109-acre reservoir, built in 1862, is no longer used as a source of water for the city, according to the park’s website.
